IIFA. Probably, the biggest award function of Bollywood and the most awaited awards show in India! The International Indian Film Academy Awards, best known to us as IIFA, are a set of awards presented annually by the International Indian Film Academy to honor both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in Bollywood. A night of song, dance, humor and celebration, The IIFA night is the most celebratory, entertaining and awaited night not only by the Bollywood divas and hunks but also by us aam aadmis. A night where we get to see all the stars, old as well as new, get together to celebrate and praise the creative talent of Bollywood. The IIFA awards were finally screened last night, and we enjoyed every bit of it.
The IIFA 2016, the 17th year of the awards, were held in Madrid, Spain. The awards truly celebrated talent with Bajrangi Bhaijaan winning best movie, India’s favorite Duo of Ranvir-Deepika winning best actor and best actress, respectively. Sanjay Leela Bhansali won the best director award which was presented to him by his” favorite actors,” Ranvir Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Ranvir Singh had us all swooning when he sent flying kisses to Deepika, putting to rest all the rumors of them ever breaking up. He even thanked her in the most adorable way when he won the best actor award saying,” There’s another special person I must thank. I was moved by her performance on Bajirao songs during the show. She is the Leela to my Ram, Mastani to my Bajirao and I don’t know what’s next. Girl, you are so fine. Nothing makes me happier than you… I mean winning an award here with you.” Deepika, in her speech, thanked a special someone, and we all know who it is! The night belonged to Bajirao Mastani as Priyanka was honored with the best-supporting actress award. However, the best supporting actor award was taken home by Anil Kapoor for his role of a rich business family head in Dil Dhadakne Do.
The night overall was filled with entertainment! With the hilarious and witty hosting talent of Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor, A dance tribute by Sonakshi Sinha to Sridevi and powerful dance performances by Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone made the night one to be remembered!
The stars all slayed in their outfits with everybody wearing designer clothes and dressing up to look their best! The IIFA carpet this year was green instead of red. Some of our favorite green carpets, best dressed moments were Deepika, Bipasha and Bhumi Pednekar. To begin with, our favorite, Deepika, who never fails to impress be it her red thigh high slit gown or the bold, deep neck gown at the IIFA Rocks 2016, this girl is on a roll! However, she decided to go a little traditional for the main event yesterday by wearing a beautiful Sabyasachi sheer cape gown. While many of our Bollywood divas chose lighter shades and shades of pink or white, Bipasha graced the green carpet in her electric blue gown. An electric blue Abu Janani and Sandeep Khosla gown with a deep showy neck bagged Bipasha Basu one of the spots in the best dressed women of the night. Bhumi’s gown was designed by Shantanu Nikhil and was so beautiful that you would want to get yourself one right away!
Talking of the Green capret looks, we cannot leave behind our handsome hunks of Bollywood, can we? The men this year surely put in effort and experimentation in their looks and came to the event looking their stylish best. Our favorite looks were the following. The first being Karan Johar, In an all black three-piece suit with a black bow-tie and matching shoes, the man who never fails to impress was the epitome of handsome and we especially loved his white flower boutenierre! Next in line, with all his charm and confidence is none other than Ranvir Singh, who rocked the green carpet wearing his shiny blue-ish gray blazer and bow-tie. Riteish Dekhmukh looked more attractive than we’ve ever seen him in a dark blue blazer and matching bow-tie with a cute printed pocket square. His pulled-back hair definitely increased the attractive quotient.
With all the dresses and humour, celebration and entertainment, the IIFA 2016 was grand!
