Television sets have come a long way in the last decade in terms of technological progress, as well as aesthetic appeal. What separates older flat screens from their modern counterparts would feel staggering to anyone willing to compare them. Now, can the same be said about TV stands and cabinets? The answer to this question is also the first rule of choosing the right stand.
Don’t Buy TV Stands Designed for Older Television Sets
Although furniture in general does not need to change at the same rate as consumer tech, there are exceptions. TV stands are prime examples of such furniture because they are functionally tied directly to television sets. Therefore, TV stands and cabinets are frequently redesigned in line with the latest changes in television design and aesthetics, while also staying relevant to contemporary interior décor.
Avoid buying anything that looks outdated in style and design, even if you believe that it can get the job done. If there is a mismatch between the TV stand, the surrounding interior, and the TV set, the whole setup will stand out like a sore thumb.
Always Go with a TV Cabinet When there’s Sufficient Space
At its core, the only functional difference between a TV cabinet and a TV stand is that the former comes with storage space, while the latter does not. TV stands without storage will save space in small rooms, and they are cheaper, making them better suited for small bedrooms.
However, TV cabinets should be your default choice for the living room, the study, or any other large room. A premium TV Cabinet will provide extra storage space to store all your set-top boxes, satellite receivers, Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, physical movie collections, game collections, etc.
Perhaps even more important is the fact that TV cabinets are much sturdier than regular TV stands. Giant flat screens are quite heavy and flimsy stands may struggle under their weight over time. If you have a large screen (60” and above) with feet just as wide, the TV cabinet should be your default choice.
Always Keep the Size, Design, and Weight of the TV in Mind
We just discussed how cabinet stands are better suited for larger, heavier television sets, but that’s just a vague suggestion. Before you actually buy the stand, you will need to be sure about the TV’s exact dimensions, design, and weight. This should not be difficult if you already have the TV at home.
However, if you have plans to buy a new TV, do your research and find all the information you need online. For example, large TVs will often have wide feet to ensure an even distribution of their weight. Make sure that the TV cabinet you buy is wide enough for the set’s feet to sit without poking out.
Also, heavier TV sets need to be placed on well-built stands that can host that much weight without any issues. Avoid glass or plastic and go with TV cabinets made from solid wood instead.
