Hi, if you are reading this and you have been through phases when you just wanted to get rid of yourself, or if you are someone who is going through any kind of mental illness and carrying suicidal feelings, I just want you to know that I understand you and I know what it feels like.
There can be no specific points that will help you get rid of your thoughts and give you better mental health, but we all want to live, don’t we? Here I will try to give you ten reasons to not kill yourself; bear with me.
Reasons to Not Kill Yourself
1. Your Life Matters

That’s it. I know you have heard this a lot of times, on the phone, in texts, in books, and in person. Since this is a prevalent phrase, we tend to neglect its significance. Don’t you think it should always be like, “My Life Matters”?
You are reading this right now, and did you count how many times you inhaled oxygen? No, you did not. But let me tell you, I am glad that you did. I am happy that you are alive and proud of you for still surviving.
2. You Are a Need

Yes, you read it right. I know you do not believe you have anyone who loves you or who will always be there for you, which is a natural personal feeling, but trust me, there is. Some people love you and care for you. You cross their mind several times a day, even if you are not in touch with them.
3. This Will Pass Like a Season

Yes, talking about suicide, when we are suicidal, we tend to start believing that we will always be like this. We all think about death sometimes, but trust me, there is not much to think about. Instead, think about suicide prevention by keeping yourself strong mentally.
Don’t let suicidal thoughts take over. After a particular age, life gives us some enormous challenges that we have to handle on our own; dealing with mental distress is one of them. No one and no drug or alcohol can help you but yourself.
If you could convince yourself that you can be alright, for yourself, then there is nothing in this world that could bring back those thoughts in your head, again. I know it is tough, really tough, but it is not impossible. It is not a long time process; it is a slow and healing remedy.
4. Universe Needs You

No, I am not exaggerating. Every one of us is unique; however, we do not think we are. I am not saying if you survive, you will become a doctor and start saving lives, or you will become a teacher and begin spreading knowledge for a better and brighter world.
Start small, if you survive a month; think about how kind you will be towards yourself and the universe. Even if you feed animals or pet them for a while, you are kind to yourself and those animals. Sometimes we save lives just by surviving.
You probably gave some advice to your friend yesterday because he was giving up, you cannot imagine, but perhaps you have saved his life, your words gave him hope to survive yesterday, and he is breathing today.
I know people say, “Dying is not an option.” It is. We have the power to die. We can live. If you die, you die alone. But if you survive, you are surviving with billions of other living creatures.
5. You Need to Know how Beautiful This World Is

Yes, mountains and oceans are beautiful; perhaps you have experienced them, and now I want you to think small.
Have you ever painted your fingers with all the colors, or have you drawn anything with a paintbrush on your skin?
Have you ever noticed a white butterfly dancing around yellow daisies? Have you ever heard poems by Charles Bukowski while sipping in a giant mug of coffee and feeling the soft drizzles from your window?
Have you ever tried reading a classic like ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ at 3 am with candle lights?
No, these do not happen in movies; it happens in real life as well. I have done it, and you shall see it too.
6. You Are Someone’s Sunshine

Even though we feel down or low about something going on in our head, we hate to see our close ones being sad. You are the sunshine for those sunflowers; you make them shine bright and bloom.
People say ‘start journaling, start writing what you feel every day,’ but let’s be honest when we have negative thoughts in our head, all we want to do is just hit the sack and pretend to be positive.
Let’s do a small thing, take a journal, and always keep it with yourself like your best friend, and whenever you feel positive, even for an hour, write things that make you happy and you are grateful for and read them every day.
No, you do not have to write what you are feeling today. If you ate watermelon and that made you happy, write that down, or if you clicked a picture that looks like one of those wallpapers from Pinterest, and you are pretty proud of yourself, write that down.
7. You Do Not Know About Tomorrow

Just think about your childhood, were you always like this? You had friends, or you were close to your family, and you were happy. So, how can you be sure that you will never be satisfied?
In the 21st century, I believe everyone should seek a therapist, even for minor mental distress. But you are the only one who can make you feel good and positive about life. Self-love is not just two words, it is your responsibility, and no matter how much someone cares for you, unless you care for yourself, nothing will look adequate or truthful.
No one knows better than you; that is what will make you feel good. If you think changing your friends will make you happy, do it. Do it if you think changing your daily habits will make you happy.
As I said earlier, start small, shift that study desk from the corner towards the window, paint and stick them in your wall, stick posters of your favorite artist, write classic quotes of your favorite author, make your room look aesthetic, make it look like yours. Anything that makes you happy matters.
8. You Are Strong

I believe the best way to feel less harmful about your life and be more thankful is to know that someone, some stranger, has been through so much more. No, I am not saying your pain is invalid, but maybe you need to let the sonder sink in.
Do not give up. You need to stay alive and keep breathing for those, who are looking for reasons to keep going, you need to motivate others because you matter.
9. Universe Is Not That Cruel

Yes, some people are cruel, disrespectful, and judgmental, but others can also die to save an animal. This world is evil, it gives you tough situations, but maybe it is not as tough as you think it is.
Do not let anyone measure your strength. Do not let anyone tell you that you are weak and inadequate. You are the only one who can tell you what you are and your strength.
10. Do Not Give Up

I know you have been through a lot, and some terms that you were not aware of when you used to be happy are the harshest terms for you, now. Patriarchy, body-shaming, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia, gender discrimination, and whatnot, but still hang in there; you are stronger and kinder than you think you are.
Survive each day and promise yourself to survive tomorrow. You are not alone. If you are reading this article and you feel a little bit motivated, know that someone else is also reading this, someone who probably has the same issues as you.
And you know what? When you motivate others, you are motivating yourself as well. Keep driving others for yourself.
No, I am not saying that you will never be sad again; change is the only permanent thing in this universe. But make sure that you change for your own good.
Be unhappy, but know that you will smile tomorrow or maybe after a very long time, but you will. There are a lot of things that you are not aware of that I am not aware of, let’s just live to know more.
Let me know if you have a better idea and safety plan that will help everyone to feel positive about life.- Top 10 reasons to not kill yourself
