It had been almost a year now, I had been thinking of running a marathon. I started jogging and running a couple of times but never actually completed a good distance. Then set some exercise goals using some tracking applications although no major help.
I was then speaking to a friend one day and got to know that she just ran a half marathon for her birthday and she feels very happy about it, and that’s how I knew when I had to do the same. But I was still a newbie with no idea how to start training to be able to run it efficiently not just for the sake of completing one.
Wondering the same I looked up some athletes and runners online to understand their journey, only to figure out that it is their own will and consistency that helped them achieve what they have today. While researching online I also went to Reddit to look up ideas for preparation and that’s how I got hold of it.
your number one tip for a first time marathoner?

It is very difficult to achieve the entire length in a go, or even in the first few days. You have to consistently keep running and increasing your stamina day by day. You can start by even 5000 steps in a day and go to 5 miles. It is not impossible.
There are some things that you should keep in mind, and which helped me in my journey; try to have a running partner for competition feeling and also for the company so that you are motivated but try not to build an internal competition.

Always make sure that you are using the right gear and the correct type of shoes since these will directly affect your feet and back. Resting, warming up, and cooling down are all important parts of the routine and should be done with each session.
If you feel you are tired, try to rest a little and not over-exert yourself. If you are injured make sure you recover completely before you restart. Because if not, that will have a long-term impact on your bones and affect overall performance.

I started with ten thousand steps in a day, moved to running 3-4 miles, and then about 10 miles. Initially, I was able to do it in two or three breaks. Eventually, the timing got better, and the breaks got shorter. In about 3 months I could run 15 miles at a stretch.
It was a big achievement and a milestone in my personal growth. After another month I was able to do the same 15 with better efficiency and that really changed my overall performance. It took me a little more than the average time because I suffered an injury in my right foot.

But as I actually enlist my experience and add the tips that helped me the most, I’d say it is an experience that each of us should try to have once in a life. The feeling is good and very fulfilling!
