Icy Tales is in conversation with Pritika Loonia about her journey, challenges, and how she became a successful side hustle coach.
Q) At what point in your life you decided to become a side hustle coach and a content creator?
Pritika Loonia- The point when I decided to start my YouTube channel is the point when I decided to start this coaching. I started my YouTube channel with parenting videos. I used to only talk about parenting.
And this idea came to my mind as I was standing outside, waiting to pick up my kids from kindergarten. Every mom was discussing the same problem that was the kids not leaving the milk bottle or still wearing a diaper.
There were similar problems we all faced. Then I thought to myself, even though I have kids both of them have opposite natures. But still, I am not struggling as much as they are.
So, I thought, maybe I am doing something right. I thought why not share it with the world? So, I came home and searched on YouTube and everywhere about parenting. I came across slideshows and people were just talking, giving a voiceover.
There was not one video where a person was talking from experience. I found that gap and thought let’s do it. So, I just started from my phone. I used to share my experience of how I handle things.
People started to connect because it was not read out from a blog or something. These were my experiences, so, people connected well and that’s how it started.
Q) How do you balance creating content and managing your side hustle?
Pritika Loonia- I have said many times in my video, I will say it here again. I used to devote 2 hours every day while everyone was sleeping, In my earlier videos, I had my earphones on and mic held close to my mouth and I used to say to the people that my kids are sleeping and I don’t want to wake them.
And there are so many comments about it, that it is so relatable. Parents talk slowly because kids are sleeping.
So, people wanted that. That is what I used to do. Thumbnails and all, I used to make during nighttime before sleeping. I was not spending the whole day on creating content. Daily two hours during the afternoon were fixed. So, it’s a bonus only.
Q) What are some of the challenges you have faced as a content creator and a side hustle coach?
Pritika Loonia- The biggest challenge that every content creator faces is that you are doing a job but you are not getting paid. How long can you do a job without getting paid, rewarded, or appreciated? You need something back.
It’s really hard to keep on doing the job. You don’t know when your videos will get viral or when it will work. It might take some days, 6 months, or even years. You don’t know. It also depends on how much you are learning and changing your content depending on that.
That was the biggest challenge. For that, I also promised myself, before starting my channel that for one full year, I would not expect one rupee in return, and would not keep a deadline for that.
A deadline line ‘In one year I need a thousand subscribers’. Because it’s not in my hands, how can I keep a deadline, how can I give myself number goals? I cannot.
So, I just promised myself that for one year I will keep on giving content. If nothing happens then I will stop it and try something else, but it worked within 4 to 5 months.
Q) How do you come up with new ideas for your content?
Pritika Loonia- Content ideas are a very creative thing and you cannot put yourself into a creative zone. Creativeness can drop at any time. You are doing a very random thing and it will click.
The problem with most people is when it’s clicking they think that yes I can create a video on it but they don’t note it down. And then you don’t remember it if you don’t write it down.
So, my biggest point is I have a WhatsApp group and it’s pinned on my WhatsApp and there is nobody else other than me in that group. It has ideas written in it.
Now I have different groups for different fields. But initially, if an idea clicks I would write it down. I even used a tool called Trello. Like a note app only but very organized. One should try. For any content creation, you should do it on that app. This is for when you get the ideas.
The next part is how you search about it, and how you get inspired by other people’s content. YouTube is there, there are so many websites. You just have to get inspired.
And when you are in a creative zone, use it wisely. Go more deeply into that zone. You can go to a cafe for 2 hours if you have noise at home or you want a different atmosphere to concentrate.
Put the earphones on, so that you can’t hear anything else. And just think and think. The creative juices will start flowing.
