Past Life Regression: An Introduction
Are you familiar with the term past life? What do you think it means?
Well, if you are someone who believes in rebirth or reincarnation, per se, then you might be aware of the idea that our souls never die, not even when our physical form does. The souls rather reborn into different lives every single time we die.
Now, past life is basically a different life of the same soul in a different time zone. It means that a soul is reborn in the world, where it has been once born before.
Have you ever met anyone who speaks of being someone else or remembering living a different life? Or maybe you have had such strange feelings yourself. This could be simply because this is not the first life you are living.
But how would you know about your past life, right? Well, there is a way, and that very way is known as “past life regression.”
Past Life Regression (PLR) is a technique to connect you with your past life. This technique is done to resolve any conflicts that have been carried forward. PLR can be useful when you have dreams of certain memories that don’t feel familiar or from this life.
These memories could be extremely overwhelming, especially if the base is trauma. These fears could be irrational fears unrelated to your current life experience. Some could be due to people you have met for the first time but feel a strange connection.
This could be due to connections formed in your past life experience, so you can understand these past life stories by undergoing past life regression therapy.
PLR therapy helps recover past life memories.
This technique is highly discredited by medical practitioners, as it is believed to have no scientific connection. It is generally a spiritual experience or psychotherapeutic approach.
The basis of this technique is hypnosis and suggestion.
Now that you know what past life regression basically is, your mind might be filled with questions like “is it a safe practice” “does it have any benefits” “is it legal.
This article will cover every aspect of past life regression, starting with the benefits.
Past Life Regression: How Does it Benefit?
Currently, the biggest problems faced in this life are anxiety and stress. The root cause of these could be uncertainty about our future, comparing ourselves to others. But surprisingly, many times, the stress is connected to trauma that we have experienced in the past.
Our phobias could also be from past life experiences. By healing through past life regression therapy, you can resolve those events and move on.
Following are the benefits you can experience:
1. Spiritual healing
When you participate in this therapy, you will realize that your life does not end with your physical body dying. This therapy will help you get rid of the fear of death.
As you come across the other lives, you have lived in the past, you will get a sense of comfort in knowing that your soul might live for another day.
This, in turn, will help you grow spiritually.
2. Self-efficacy improves
You will be able to renew your motivation to become better. For example, someone whose past life was full of struggles will somehow get the inspiration to make their current life worth everything.
3. Controlling Your Emotions
Sometimes it is even difficult for us to figure out why we feel the way we feel. Our reactions are unrelated to the present but could be explained with life regression therapy.
Once we understand why we have this problem with our feeling, we can solve it with the help of a past life regression therapist. This will also help you regain your mental health.
4. Becoming aware of yourself
Another reason past life regression therapy is important is because it helps you stop being judgemental and stop being harsh on yourself for unknown reasons.
Sometimes, your past life influences your current decisions. Once you are fully aware of who you were and who you are now, you will better handle yourself.
5. Improving Relationships
When you understand yourself better, you will have better relationships with others. Past life regression therapy helps us understand others as well.
Once you understand the things you experienced in your past life, you will perceive other people’s emotions.
6. Forgiveness
Forgiving yourself is difficult if you don’t know why you keep feeling strongly about something.
You can identify the trigger and release the problem with life regression therapy. You will feel an immense amount of admiration and pride for the strength you had in your past life.
So, these were some of the benefits of this therapy.
Moving on…
Is it safe?
Past life regression could be traumatic, leaving you insecure or sensitive. But with a life regression investigation, you can overcome these feelings. With more knowledge, you have higher awareness.
Otherwise, as a therapy technique, it is a safe practice. You wouldn’t be harmed physically or emotionally.
Is it just hypnosis?
As mentioned above, PLR therapy is a combination of hypnosis and suggestion, so to answer your question, it would be a “Yes.”
It allows you to re-experience memories of your past life experiences through hypnosis and is mostly conducted by a QHHT certified hypnotist (past life regression therapy).
Where does a PLR session take place?
You could do it yourself at home, get past life regression therapists to visit you at home and conduct the session or, in the QHHT practitioner’s (past life regression therapy) room. But a soothing, quiet, comfortable room should be used, free of any distraction.
What does the PLR hypnotist do in a session?
PLR sessions are very comfortable. Your therapist will slowly put you into a state of hypnosis, so you cross over into the past life dimension. So there’s nothing to worry about.
And once you do so, they will guide you to the exact memories you need to recall with the help of a few questions.
The technique used is not just hypnotherapy, though. Once you cross over the past life’s dimension, they guide your dream with leading questions to promote recall for accessing memories from your past.
This is an experience for the sensory system for the patient. The client is allowed to see the situation and hear the sound of a person being in a room or recalling a particular smell.
These regression therapists use this method to relax the patient and encourage more clarity on the subject.
What is the impact of this past life regression session?
This depends on what has been learnt from your past life memories. By re-experiencing the previous lives, some have trauma that could be felt as fear or anger, while others could be relieved from the insight.
A therapeutic technique is required to solve these unresolved issues. This process of past life regression can be carried out by going on a journey to certain places that your past incarnation remembered to bring them peace.
How long does this therapy take?
Regression can be achieved in fifteen seconds. But it takes 45 minutes minimum to recall the past death and look into the soul’s memory.
Other Techniques to bring peace to your prior self
Make your soul understand that whatever happened in the past was not their fault. Sometimes you are the victim. You are not gaslighting yourself to get sympathy.
Explaining to yourself why it happened also is an excellent way to heal. When you explore the life experiences of the previous incarnation, you can explain to yourself that these situations in the present are not as dire as they used to be in the lives of the previous incarnations.
Sometimes, the one undergoing therapy explores the place that the previous incarnations lived in or meets the people left behind after their passing. This can help the soul heal.
Beliefs Systems of Past life Regression
Since Ancient Greece, Pre-Socratic philosophers considered the idea of souls travelling from one body to another newborn. This belief did not continue in the East region, but reforms of Buddha and Mahavira in the Vedic period were essential.
However, there are conceptual objections to the reincarnation theory, like population growth. Since the population has been increasing throughout history, the number of souls is constant. Then how come the number of bodies keep increasing.
Hinduism refutes the idea that only human souls can be reincarnated; animal souls can also be embodied since new souls cannot be created.
But if reincarnation is real, it does not explain that some people do not remember their past life. Without a memory of the past, how can we say that someone is the same person as the one who lived in a previous life?
We can argue that the criterion of a person is not the body. One does not have to live in a body to be considered the same person as long as there is psychological continuity. Philosopher John Locke said that if a prince woke up a cobbler one day but had his memories of a prince, he would still be a prince.
But, some say since we don’t remember our life as infants, it does not mean we are no longer the same person. The same goes for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
A significant bit that philosophers point out is that the psychological identity criterion, if a chain of memories is preserved from one stage to another, that identity is preserved.
If a woman has a memory of her time as a child and as a CEO, then the woman is the same as a child. But in reincarnation, the chain does not exist.
Since the dawn of time, different theories, practices, and research have been done on reincarnation.
Let’s take a look at some research work.
Who is Ian Stevenson?
Dr Ian Stevenson (1918-2007) worked for the University of Virginia School of Medicine for 50 years and was a psychiatrist.
He became Director of the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies, which investigated parapsychological phenomena like:
(1) near-death experiences,
(2) reincarnation,
(3) out-of-body experiences, and
(4) altered states of consciousness.
He was internationally recognized for the research of reincarnation that he discovered from the evidence of suggested memories and physical injuries being transferred from one life to another.
He travelled for more than 40 years and went through many cases of children who could recall their past lives.
His research presented children with unusual abilities, illnesses, and phobias that could not be explained due to the environment or heritage.
Dr Ian Stevenson’s Research:
Dr Stevenson’s research started in 1960 when he learned of a case in a Sri Lankan child who reported remembering a past life. He questioned the child, and their parents, including those recalled as parents from his past life.
This led to his conviction that reincarnation was a possibility. That year, he published two articles in the American Society for Psychical Research Journal about the child who remembered their past life. As he discovered more, his ambition to quantify reincarnation grew.
He co-founded the ‘Society for Scientific Exploration’ in 1982. He wrote about 300 papers and 14 books on reincarnation. In 2003, he published his second book, “European Cases of the Reincarnation Type “.
In 1997, he published his classic: the 2,268-page book, “Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects,” which focused on deformities and other anomalies some children were born with that could not be traced back to inheritance, prenatal or perinatal occurrences.
This classic contains hundreds of pictures presenting evidence he discovered. It documents 200 cases of children having memories and birthmarks that corresponded with the lives and wounds of deceased people these children recalled while living in a past life.
A Burmese child said she remembered the life of her deceased aunt, who had died in surgery for congenital heart disease.
The child had a long, vertical linear hypopigmented birthmark close to her lower chest and upper abdomen; this birthmark matched the surgical incision to repair the aunt’s heart.
In contrast to a child in Turkey who had a horizontal line birthmark across the upper right quadrant of his abdomen.
It resembled the scar of a surgeon’s abdominal incision. The child said he remembered the life of his paternal grandfather, who had contracted jaundice and was operated on before he died.
With the help of approaches like Past Life Regressions, these tales could come to life. The people who were living these stories could have understood their conditions better.
But the PLR approach was never easy because many myths were joined to it.
Myths of Past Life Regression Therapy
The process of Past life regression therapy is a way of healing from your lifetime (past included) traumas. But there are many myths around the way of conducting this treatment.
This is voodoo related.
It is not true, as it uses the principle of hypnosis and suggestion to connect with our past to influence our future.
The therapist could misuse the information you share or take advantage of you.
Similar to how A confidentiality clause binds psychologists, Past life regression therapists are also supposed to adhere to this.
The client will be fully aware even in that meditative state, so there is no way that the hypnotherapist will try to take advantage of them.
It is an unethical method.
It has been said many times that Past Life Regression lacks med ethics, as there is no scientific evidence of this past lifetime being real, or the therapist could implant false memories.
The hypnotherapist helps the person gain control of their overflowing emotions by guiding them. This process is explained, and the person’s consent is also received before the session.
A person is lost in the past.
The person can stop when they open their eyes, as they are also fully aware of their situation.
One can never get lost or stuck in their past because they are not travelling to the past; they are just reliving their memories. Once the process stops, they will be fully aware of their present life.
How would you know your soul has been incarnated before
If you have recurring dreams, a good intuition, memories that do not feel like they belong to you. If you can pick up emotions, absorb emotions, or experience the pain others feel, you are an empath. This could also mean that you are a reincarnated soul.
