World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue & Development is celebrated annually on May 21st and the United Nations leads the celebration of this day.
This day aims to promote cultural multiplicity, awareness, and exclusivity.
Additionally, this day also reminds us of the significance of adopting various cultures for sustainable growth.
United Nations took to Twitter to announce the same. The tweet read,

1. Cultural Diversity
It refers to varied traditions and beliefs practiced by diverse people. Cultural diversity can also be different languages spoken or customs practiced and moreover, it is important to embrace this cultural diversity.
We should be able to recognize and value uniqueness and should be able to appreciate diversity and additionally, it is also important that we provide a society that is respectful and adaptive.
2. Dialogue for Understanding

5. Declaration for Culture
To embrace cultural diversity, delegations from 150 countries assembled in Mexico for MONDIACULT 2022 in September last year.
It was the greatest world conference dedicated to culture in four decades.
5.1. Global Public Good
During the conference, the member states agreed to adopt Declaration for Culture and this also affirms culture as a “global public good”.
Additionally, cultural diversity was also termed “a specific goal in its own right”.
5.2. Trafficking of Items
In addition, the member states also committed to putting in more effort to prevent the trafficking of cultural goods. This is said to be achieved with mutual international cooperation.
During this agreement, all “unprovenanced” items are required to be protected including vulnerable archaeological sites.
In addition, the Declaration has also mandated UNESCO to recommend standards to be maintained for unlisted archeological sites.
