“Drishyam” Movie to be Remade in Korean!

Korean and Indian film studios have started working together on the remake of the Drishyam series in Korea.

Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak, Warner Bros, head Choi Jae-Won and Director Kim Jee-Woon all will work together for the remake of the Drishyam franchise in Korea.

Thus, Indian Panorama Studios and Korean Anthology Studios will combine for the very first time for a film remake.

This statement was made at the India Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2023, by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Choi Jae-won.

What Pathak Said about the Drishyam Remake in Korea at Cannes?

Pathak expressed excitement about the Korean remake of the Drishyam franchise.

He also said, Korean fare has been a muse for them and now one of the famous Bollywood films has inspired the Koreans and what could be a greater accomplishment for the Indian film industry than this?

Moreover, he said that this marks the starting of cultural interchange between two nations as well as two film industries

What Choi Said about Remakes of Films?

Choi said, because of the collaboration it would be a more significant remake of the film.

Additionally, he also said owing to this collaboration that they would be able to add the best elements of both Indian and Korean Cinema. Thus, it will create a meaningful remake that would be as good as the original film.

What did Nguyen Say?

Nguyen said he is overwhelmed to be part of this project and it is an appropriate match to work together on a fantastic story in Drishyam because he had previously worked with them.

Moreover, he has the utmost respect for them and is thrilled to be part of the first Indian-Korean collaboration, which will surely make history.

Drishyam Series

At first, the “Drishyam” was made in Malayalam. The director of the movie was Jeetu Joseph. The story writer was also Jeetu. However, Mohanlal played the lead role in this film.

This film was a massive hit, so the makers decided to make it in different languages. Such as “Drishya” in Kannada, led by Ravichandran in 2014, “Drushyam” in Telugu, and in this lead role played by Venkatesh in 2014.

“Papanasam” in Tamil, starring Kamal Hassan in 2015; “Drishyam” in Hindi, starring superstar Ajay Devgn in 2015; and “Dharmayududhaya” in Sinhala, led by Jackson Anthony.

After all these Indian languages, this film was also remade in Chinese, titled “Sheep Without a Shepherd. It was also a blockbuster movie and earned $199 million.

However, “Drishyam 2” in Malayalam was wrapped up during the COVID pandemic and started streaming on OTT in 2021.

Nonetheless, “Drishyam 2” in Hindi was the blockbuster movie of 2022 and grossed $45 million worldwide.

What is the Story of Drishyam?

In this movie, Ajay performed as Vijay. And Vijay’s daughter has accidentally killed a policewoman’s son to defend herself from physical harassment.

But the policewoman threatened to ruin Vijay’s family when she found her son lost, but Vijay did everything to protect his family and left zero proof of the boy’s death.
