IcyTales is in conversation with Dr. Mayur Jasvani about his experience as a homeopathy doctor so far.
Q) Can you tell us about your background and how you became interested in homeopathy?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: I belong to a city called Kadi in Gujarat. My college was in a district called Mehsana in North Gujarat which was 50 km from my city. I used to do up and down daily for my studies.ย Due to some drastic changes in my life, I decided to pursue homeopathy.
When I got admission, I realized the major changes in the patients with only small doses of medicine. Within 20 days of graduation, I started my own clinic in Kadi only as there was no Homeopathy clinic or pharmacy within 50 km of my city. Rather than going to some big city, I thought to start it within my own city.
Q) How do you approach patient consultations and determine the best course of treatment?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: Whenever a patient comes to me after consulting a lot of doctors, they have already spent a lot of time and money on the treatment. So my first approach is to provide them relief within the shortest period of time and also keep my charges affordable.
I only take a minimal amount or Rs 100 or 200 for one medicine. So I also consider their financial well-being too in addition to providing the best possible treatment.
Q) Can you share a success story of a patient who saw significant improvement through homeopathy treatment?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: There are multiple success stories. But my favorite is a patient aged 4 years who was suffering from eczema, along with itching and oozing of blood. The child was suffering from the age of 6 months. The parents were tired of getting treatment for their child for 3 years.
When they came to me on the first day I prescribed the medicine and the child could see the difference in a week. It took about one year to completely cure the patient. Now the child is healthy and happy.
Q) You are a poet as well. Can you tell us how and when did you become interested in poetry?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: This started when I was a child. I didnโt realize I was good at it. But my teachers used to praise me and encourage me for it. Then in 6th, 7th, and 8th standard, I started participating in state-level competitions.
In 9th standard, I started writing poetry and stories. I was also awarded by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat for being the best reader in the competition Vanche Gujarat.
Q) Can you explain the difference between conventional medicine and homeopathy, and when it might be more appropriate to use one over the other?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: I believe that no pathy is superior to others. All three are human-made and each has its own scope and limitations. One must know the scope of homeopathy so that it can be used better in chronic diseases or pediatric cases.
It is not useful to prescribe heavy medicines which can harm kidneys in the long term. So in such cases, homeopathy can be preferred. However, if one has a case of emergency, it is not wise to suggest homeopathy because one needs immediate treatment.
One thing that should be kept in mind is that we should see what is suitable for the well-being of the patient. A homeopathy doctor should not criticize allopathy and wise versa.
Q) Homeopathy has its own challenges and criticism so how do you manage patient expectations and address any concerns they may have about homeopathy?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: When a patient comes to me with a chronic condition for example bronchitis, in this case, they have been taking antiallergic medicine for a very long time. Usually, they are of the opinion that they will be better within a week or maximum few months.
So first of all, I listen to them, and I understand their daily routine. Then I explain to them that they are suffering from the disease for a very long time and it developed over a period of time. Therefore, it is not possible to eliminate the disease immediately.
I make them understand that due to the regular usage of medicine, their body has created resistance to it. So we try to reduce this resistance and move gradually. Every disease and every patient is unique so there is no one time frame for any.
Q) Can you share any unique cases you have encountered in your practice and how you approached their treatment?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: I encountered such a case with a female of 75 years. She was suffering from carcinoma of the cervix and it was diagnosed in the second and third stages. It was extremely painful for her and she was passing blood while urinating every time.
She did not want chemotherapy due to age factor. I discussed this case with my senior and I reached a conclusion to start the treatment. After 8 months of use, she stopped bleeding and was without pain.
Q) Your Instagram profile features talking about the mental health of doctors. What Are your views about it?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: Mental Health of doctors is a very crucial topic to discuss. Today when a patient comes, they have already read something on Google and do not believe the treatment by the doctor. This creates a problem for the doctor.
Another thing is that a doctor is always seen as a doctor. Even while going to a social gathering, people enquire about diseases and treatment. This creates a lot of mental pressure on the doctor.
Doctors are also humans and they can also make mistakes. If a doctor makes a mistake there is a lot of criticism regarding that. Due to all these reasons, problems such as drinking and smoking are increasing day by day.
Q) What do you think is the future of Homeopathy in India considering constant research and development in conventional medicine?
Q) What do you think is the future of Homeopathy in India considering constant research and development in conventional medicine?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: Recently WHO has published data that a large portion of the world population has access to homeopathy. There is now great research in homeopathy by our scientific community. It is being proved that homeopathy is not just a placebo effect but the medical effect of homeopathy.
It is the nano technic effect, frequency effect but not only psychological effect. I would thank the government of India for promoting Arsenic Album for the treatment of COVID-19. After Covid, a lot of people are gaining trust in homeopathy.
The government is promoting AYUSH which believes that the treatment of the body should be with natural ingredients.
Q) What are your long-term goals in terms of being a homeopathic practitioner and a poet?
Dr. Mayur Jasvani: I have a two-bed clinic currently. My long-term goal is to establish the best homeopathy hospital with multi-system treatment. Any person suffering from chronic disease should not lose hope.
I want that the patient should die without any suffering. I also want to reach out to the WHO to prove the effectiveness of Homeopathy. I was also the first student to represent homeopathy on a global platform.
