Rachna Mohan is a Fitness Coach and Nutritionist who has been practicing for the last 30 years. She focuses on giving her clients personalized diet programs along with workouts to help them maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle.
She has over 100K followers on her Instagram page where she posts content about weight loss, health tips, and food. She is loved by her audience for her authenticity, creative meal ideas, and her sustainable approach toward weight loss.
In her conversation with Icy Tales, she spoke about her journey to becoming a fitness coach, her opinion on healthy weight loss, and some insights on nutrition for children while also busting some common myths about nutrition.
“Following good habits for a healthy lifestyle became my ritual” – Rachna Mohan
As a child, Rachna Mohan was overweight and her struggle for weight loss began back then. She also remembers how after her marriage, she was diagnosed with an acute disease called ulcerative colitis and she would keep making rounds to the hospital with her husband.
“I took a lot of medication for my issue but nothing worked”, she says. From that day onwards she decided to bring a lot of good habits into her life and change her lifestyle.
Over the last 30 years, she has been maintaining a healthy way of living,“My motive was triggered by my health condition after which I formally took it as my profession”.
“Though I tried very hard to lose weight, I was not very aware of things; I did workouts and diets very randomly”, she says. She reaffirms that if we want to help the generation ahead of us, we should become aware of the way things work.
“Fitness is important in every field of life” – Rachna Mohan
Rachna Mohan believes that physical fitness has become more essential in today’s world. “We are working at corporates or through the digital medium, thereby spending more time in front of our laptop screens and compromising physical movement”, she says.
She also highlights the alarming increase in lifestyle diseases and calls it, unpredictable. She also says that people are showcasing a carefree attitude as we wait for health problems to arise, to find a solution. She urges people to take the precautionary steps and maintain good physical fitness
“I believe in only Sustainable and Healthy weight loss” – Rachna Mohan
Rachna Mohan believes that protein diets, fiber diets, and fat-oriented diets are not required when it comes to weight loss. “If we focus primarily on these diets, it may lead to deficiencies, skin problems, and also your muscle mass can reduce”, she says.
She says that following a sustainable and healthy weight loss will help people to get adapted to it gradually, over some time. “You should not target more than 500 gms to 1kg in a week when it comes to weight loss”, she says.
She also threw light on the importance of home-cooked meals and also urged people to commit at least 25 minutes of their day towards physical fitness. “It can be walking, swimming, cycling, or going to the gym, but physical fitness is essential”.
She believes that lifestyle changes cannot happen suddenly as it is daily habits that will influence the same. She wants people to adapt to good habits and it will reflect in their lifestyle eventually. She also tells about how our sustaining power is important as we are growing old.
“People should try to reduce their sugar intake by avoiding carbonated drinks and food which have preservatives”, she says. She believes that the right way of losing weight would be to follow a balanced diet that consists of vitamins, minerals, and complex carbs.
She also perceives that food should not just be healthy but tasty as well. Many people believe that healthy food is very boring but they are wrong”, she says. If food is cooked in the right way along with some modifications, it can become healthy and tasty at the same time, she believes.
“7-8 hours of peaceful sleep is very important” – Rachna Mohan
Rachna Mohan tells all her clients that inorder to look fit as they are growing older – a balanced diet, exercise, good sleep, and getting Vitamin D by sitting under the sun for some time, is mandatory. “Most of my clients are deficient in Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D”, she says and adds that sunlight is free of cost but we don’t utilize it.
Speaking of anti-aging creams, she ascertains people to use a simple moisturizer rather than opting for costly creams. She also adds that sunscreen can be applied daily. “We need to clean our skin regularly and it will give a glow”, she says.
“I am happy that I can bring a change in a person’s life” – Rachna Mohan
Rachna Mohan loves interacting with people across the world and she thanks her profession for it. She also feels elated that she can bring a change in the lives of people, as it keeps her motivated to do better. “Even if I can resolve a small issue for my clients, I feel happy”, she says.
She also highlights that she loves making food videos for her social media. This way, she comes across a lot of cuisines and new dishes, that she admires. “Keeping aside the food, I learn a lot every single day through my profession which encourages me to achieve more”, she says.
“Many people believe that oil and ghee are very unhealthy but its a myth” – Rachna Mohan
Rachna Mohan wishes to convey to people that oil is a very essential part of one’s food. “If we cut down on oil, other resources like fibers, proteins, and carbs will not get absorbed in our body”, she says. She adds that oil can keep the digestion system intact.
She also busts the myth about eating less will fasten weight loss. “The more we skip meals, the more hungry we will feel and we might end up eating more afterwards”, she says. She urges people to not skip meals and to have oil in the right proportion, to maintain a balance in lifestyle.
Rachna Moham aims to help more people around her to maintain a good lifestyle and become fit. She wishes to grow in her journey and uphold her name in the nutrition and fitness industry.
