Having read almost every version of Ramayan present in this world, including the Purans, till now, she is well-versed with facts about them.

Here is a delightful conversation with Shubhi Agarwal on her journey of being an all-rounder at a young age with Icy Tales

Q.  What writers & poets did you enjoy reading as a child?

Shubhi Agarwal: Before writing ‘Lakshmila- The Eternal Love Story,’ I was never interested in reading about other authors and poets. English was not an exciting subject for me in school. I found CBSE English way too boring. I preferred reading scriptures in English because I found them more interesting than school textbooks. I developed an interest in romance novels in my early teens’ The Evolution of A Girl’ and ‘Few Things Left Unsaid’ are one of my favourite books. Ashish Bagrecha and Sudeep Nagarkar are two of my favourite authors.

Q. What motivated you to focus on your passion as a writer?

Shubhi Agarwal: When I was in 9th grade, an incident occurred. I lost a very dear friend due to a misunderstanding. I wanted to prove myself to him, and that one incident helped me find my passion: writing. To prove myself to my friend, I began doing my best in areas where I could improve myself.

I believe he acted as a catalyst in my journey. And that one incident propelled me to do this at an early age. I would not have been passionate about my work if that incident had not occurred. I still recall his words and what he said: “Tell Shubhi to come to me the day she achieves something big in life.” There are days when I am less motivated or have a less productive day, and I recall his words, which motivate me to get back on track.

Q. So there would have been a journey full of ups & downs behind all your success. Could you tell us something about your journey?

Shubhi Agarwal:  They usually say that writers have a great life. Some try to put obstacles in your path, in my case. My journey has been begging for the fall. I began writing when I was fourteen years old. Many people- family, friends, and society tried to put obstacles in my path. They all forced me to join my family business and stop doing what I do. But, my parents have been my strongest backbone; they value my choices.

Most people believe girls should not be given opportunities to grow and become self-sufficient. Despite the negative comments from family and society, my parents were always there for me. My mother is my most significant source of strength; she has provided me with the psychological support I need. I am the first writer and entrepreneur in my clan, which I am proud of.

Lakshmila- The Eternal Love Story

In 2019, my father took me to a world book fair, where I interacted with publishers and several editors. When I started my book “Lakshmila- The Eternal Love Story,” I remember I went to my dad’s shop and said I wanted to write a book, he gave me 500 bucks, and I bought a book from the stationary shop and started writing on the book. I didn’t know the book I could start writing on MS Word back then.

Writing is something that gives me comfort. My parents at that time understood that writing was my true potential, and I was very serious about writing. They advised me to write it in MS word and send it to us.

Q) You have written many valuable pieces. Which one will you pick up today to motivate yourself? And the reason for your choice, could you also tell us 2 lines of the same?

Shubhi Agarwal- The line that I truly believe in, which I write, is, “Miracles happen when hope dies.” There is one more quote by Urmila Ji from my book Lakshmila- ‘No eclipse stays forever.’

Q) As an author, what were the challenges you faced at such a young age? Who has been your constant support during all times?

Shubhi Agarwal: Life is full of ups and downs; challenges come to make us better. The first challenge I faced was losing friends when I decided to opt for private schooling for a year. Definitely that time, too, my parents stood with me as my strength. The thinking of society and relatives gives girls the liberty to choose their dreams and makes them independent.

Q) If not writing, what would your career choice be in the future?

Shubhi Agarwal: I am currently preparing for the competition exam and am very optimistic about it. I will not be leaving writing because writing has all of my heart. The upcoming projects are close to my heart. I focused on growing my own company which is SA WRITING SERVICES. It wants to make Asia’s largest content writing agency.

Q) How did publishing your first book changes your writing process?

Shubhi Agarwal: I began writing in a notebook and finished my word. I was so engrossed in my book in 10th grade that I struggled to balance my academics and my dream. I asked my parents if I could do private schooling and concentrate on my book.

I must dedicate 12 hours daily to meditation, research, and writing content for my book. My parents agreed to let me opt for private schooling because they saw my passion for writing. There were rumours about me, but I wasn’t concerned because I was completely immersed in my book.

Q) What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Shubhi Agarwal: Because my exams are on my mind, I don’t have a writing schedule. What I do is on the notepad on my phone, I write down any thoughts that come to mind. Thoughts about writing can strike at any time, so I jot them down in my notepad to quickly frame the sentences.

Talking about the schedule during ‘Lakshmila- The Eternal Love Story,’ I usually sat down at midnight to do my meditation for at least two hours, and then I began to write the chapters. At first, I used to edit the day before written text and then move towards writing new. This routine went on. Usually, I used to wind up in a few hours, but in some chapters, I got so much lost that I didn’t realize I was working till noon until Mumma came and knocked on my door.

Q) Could you please through some light on SA WRITING SERVICES?

SA WRITING SERVICES

Shubhi Agarwal:  I am very passionate about writing, and my editor advised me that I should do something of my own. I took her advice and started SA writing services when I was 15. Now I have a team of 4 people. We have provided our content to blogging websites, tech agencies, and other B2B and B2C clients. We also provide services such as website development. I added a new skill- digital marketing, and I started giving lessons on digital marketing and helping people publish their books.

Q) Do you have any suggestions for upcoming writers to ensure an audience is engaged throughout a story?

Shubhi Agarwal: If you are writing a mythology book, you must research a lot; the content should be factual. Nowadays, audiences are more interested in reading and knowing about authentic facts. Conduct as many surveys as possible because it helps to know people’s views. Read a lot to enhance your vocabulary skills, and lastly, write as many drafts as you want and edit until you are satisfied with your final draft. And lastly, try to give it an emotional touch so readers can easily connect with the characters.
