This chic bakery has the most amazing selection of sweets you could hope for. It’s heaven for chocolate lovers; to leave without sampling their Belgian Chocolate cake, Ferrero Rocher cake, and Chocolate Mousse would be like committing a crime. Their cupcakes are adorable, too, little mounds topped with swirls of frosting. The Red Velvet cupcake is a hot favorite, although I personally tend to favor the chocolate-infused delights they offer. The ambiance is bright and pleasing, and they serve some choice finger foods too; all in all, it is certainly a good place to visit when you crave cakes!

The snug interior of this French patisserie, with its comfy couches, will make you feel instantly at home. While it offers a range of dishes from smoked salmon sandwiches to crisp salads, its desserts are completely noteworthy. While their Paris-Brest (A yummy combination of praline cream and pastry) and Berry Cheesecake were treats to the taste buds, the dish that blew me away was their Winter Special. A soft-centered chocolate cake and caramel mousse sprinkled with almond crunch and topped with a strawberry – this dessert is a must-have. It was unique and utterly delectable.

  • German Bakery Wunderbar

Address: 153/A, Varun Complex, Law College Road, Near Demech House, Shivajinagar, Pune, Maharashtra 411004

While I would recommend this restaurant to everyone on account of its many incredible main courses (fish and chips, the lasagna, chicken a la Kiev, etc.), there is a reason that it takes the spot in this particular list. Two words – Mango Cheesecake. I am partial to cheesecakes in general, and this one lives up to my idea of a good cheesecake. The mango flavor is not overwhelming and permeates throughout the dessert beautifully, and its sharp sweetness is well-balanced by the rich cream cheese. The Sacher Torte – a German specialty – and the strawberry cheesecake are also worth a try. The bakery is as wonderful as its name suggests. Wirklich Wunderbar!

I visited this joint in December – the time of tinsel and mistletoe and Christmas carols. I was delighted and shook to see the decoration they had put up, from the bright red stocking to the sparkly snowflake lit by a string of lights, it all looked festive and cozy. A variety of baked goods were lined up in the display cabinet; gateaux, cupcakes, tarts, and macaroons. All their products are aesthetically pleasing, and the ones I tried tasted as good as they looked. The Chocoberry – a sinfully sweet concoction of chocolate cake and cream topped with fresh strawberries was divine. A slice of Opera gateau was another delight – a decadent combination of almond sponge, coffee, and chocolate.

I cannot compile a list of this kind without recommending at least one ice-cream shop. And Cream Stone is a sundae lover’s paradise. The two-storied restaurant has a gorgeous ambiance, both indoor and outdoor, with the top floor occupied by poufs, couches, and squishy beanbags. They offer a myriad of preset combinations like the super-chocolaty Willy Wonka and the nutty Karamel Sutra. The ‘Make Your Own’ option is the highlight of their menu, where they make scrumptious sundaes out of the choices you tick. The ice-creams are served up in crunchy waffle cone bowls. Ensure you spare a minute to watch the chefs knead the ice cream like cookie dough on the cold stone; it is a charming experience.

  • Le Plaisir Patisserie Bistro

Address: Shop No. 4B, Lane 6 Intersection, Bhandarkar Road, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune, Maharashtra 411004

“…It had a buttery, crumbly, Graham-cracker crust, with a very rich yet light cream cheese filling.” – Rachel Green, Friends.

This was the quote that came to mind when I ate my first spoonful of Le Plaisir’s hazelnut cheesecake. All of their sweet treats are mouth-watering, but that dish topped them all. With its melt-in-your-mouth crust and deliciously creamy filling, topped with chocolate sauce and a smattering of crushed hazelnuts, it is a cheesecake to put all other cheesecakes to shame. Their Espresso Pannacotta is worth a taste too – wobbly and creamy, with the bitterness of the coffee balanced beautifully by the sweetness of the caramel. This dessert is the perfect way to finish off a meal at a French restaurant.

  • Terttulia

Address: 393, Sanas Corner, Off lane No. 5, South Main Road, Koregaon Park, Pune, Maharashtra 411001

While this place is mostly visited for its savory dishes, the gooey chocolate cake is a delicacy every dessert-lover (or rather sugar!) must feast upon. The rich and smooth chocolate will wrap around your tongue and pamper your taste buds, rendering you speechless. The decor and atmosphere make it a great place to chill on a Friday evening.

This cute little pink bakery has the BEST cupcakes! They have about 25 different flavors, and the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting is especially recommended. Their mini cupcakes, which you can buy by the dozen, are great for sharing amongst three or four people.
