Here is a delightful conversation with Dr. Bansari Davda on her journey as a Dermatologist with Icy Tales.
Q)What do you enjoy most about being a dermatologist And what made you want to choose dermatology?
Dr. Bansari Davda: Dermatology was always my passion. The skin is the body’s largest and incredibly important, complex organ. Skin health has a very huge impact on people’s well-being, and sense of self.
The diseases like acne, psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, baldness, etc. affect the psyche of patients enormously. As a dermatologist I am able to have an impact on my patients’ lives to an extent, getting to help them to restore their confidence and capabilities. And, that makes it the best job in the world.
The field of cosmetology is also very exciting and ever-evolving. I love to learn about new treatments and procedures and implement them.
Q) Tell us about your hobbies and how you spend time when not working.
Dr. Bansari Davda: I read a lot, mostly fiction novels. Can be thrillers, mysteries, or witty romances. I also like to binge-watch shows or movies during weekends. I also like to go out for dinners or lunches. Whenever the time permits, I play table tennis.
Q) Being in a noble profession, there indeed comes a lot of respect, but if you weren’t a doctor what would you be and why?
Dr. Bansari Davda: I have never thought about this much because, since childhood, I have always wanted to be a doctor. It was my mother and grandmother’s big dream to see me as a doctor. They always told me that it’s a very noble profession and I could do it. It was never like the profession was imposed upon me or expected from me. But since then, the domain of being a doctor had become my dream. The motive behind that was to help people and to make something of myself.
Q) Being in the medical field, doctors saw the most challenging 2 years, how did you cope with the same professionally and personally?
Dr. Bansari Davda: Talking about coping with the challenging phase professionally, I was doing my residency during the COVID-19 time. I was still a postgraduate during the pandemic, it was a very difficult time for many people and most things were stagnant.
We had duties in the COVID ward of a government hospital in rotation. It was a terrifying, nerve-wracking time. Not many patients were coming to OPDs due to the fear of corona, so patient flow had decreased. We were trying to help people as much as we can. Whoever came to the OPD was tested and treated. Personally, we all were going through different phases of life. Everything was stagnant, were unable to travel anywhere and, could not meet family members for a long time. Thank God we are past it.
Q) How can one protect their skin and hair in the best possible way in today’s atmosphere and weather?
Dr. Bansari Davda: The first thing that any dermatologist would suggest is to apply sunscreen. This is a must for every season! If sunscreen is not used, it can lead to a number of things like sun spots, sunburn, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, tanning, and even skin cancer.
The second important thing is a cleanser and then, a moisturizer according to your skin type. It is a myth that people who have oily skin cannot apply moisturizer. Every skin type requires moisturizer. If you have oily skin, use a lightweight, gel-based moisturizer. Moisturizers with peptides, ceramides, and squalene are really great for skin barrier protection.
For hair, you need to take routine care and keep them clean by regularly washing them so that you can get rid of all the impurities and dirt. Wash hair at least 2-3 times a week. Use a conditioner and a serum after every wash that gives hair proper shine and nourishment.
One should include green leafy vegetables, nuts, fruits, and protein in the diet all to nourish and protect the skin and hair on daily basis.

Q) There are so many cosmetic procedures coming nowadays and people have made it a different reality what is it that you want to say about being comfortable in your skin?
Dr. Bansari Davda: Everyone has the right to be comfortable in their own skin. If they don’t want to take any treatments for themselves and look the way they are, there should be no judgments towards them. But, if they want to look a certain way, then there should be no judgments towards them as well. If people want to get lip fillers, thread lifts, botox, or any procedures for that matter, they should feel comfortable doing that. Basically, their body, their life, and their choice.
Q) What are your thoughts on fillers or other injectable cosmetic treatments?
Dr. Bansari Davda: Talking about the fillers or other injectable cosmetic treatments, I love performing them. The results are marvelous and can completely transform a person’s look and confidence. They are completely safe and don’t look unnatural at all when done by the right injector, a trained Cosmetic Dermatologist
Q) Being a dermatologist, what challenges have you faced in your medical career and how did you overcome them?
Dr. Bansari Davda: Dermatology is one of the lengthiest courses in the field of medicine. To finish reading and understanding the entire subject in the span of one’s residency is in itself a big challenge. There were some challenges faced during the pandemic also like the decreased number of patients and procedures. Though after that, the flow of patients returned to normal soon enough. The other thing is that many people think dermatology is an easy, soft, no-emergency branch whereas, in my opinion, it isn’t easy at all. It has its own set of obstacles and challenges to overcome as we only know
