Akanksha Nanda is a doctor doing her post-graduation in MD Anaesthesia. She has been trained in the dance forms like Odissi, salsa, and Bachata. She has been performing Odissi dance form for the past seventeen years.
Here is a delightful conversation with Dr Akanksha Nanda on her journey as a doctor and Odissi dancer with Icy Tales.
Q) Was becoming a doctor always the aim? What was it that you wanted to become as a child?
Dr Akanksha Nanda- As a child, I was always passionate about being a doctor. Several events that happened as I grew up have made me sure that I want to pursue medicine as my profession.
Q) Your Instagram ID is unique; any particular reason behind the same?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โ My Instagram handle is dr.kookoo chikoo101. 101 is a positive number for me. I always try to incorporate this number into my day at least once. My birthday is May 11th, and 11 is a very lucky number. Kookoo is a name inspired by a Netflix show called Sacred Games, and Chikoo is my addition to the name.
Q) What inspired you to become a doctor?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โ The inspiration comes from the situation where doctors have to manage and handle emergencies and cases and save lives. The main aim of my becoming a doctor is the development of society and to give better and fast treatment. I think people choose any career because they want to earn a lot of money.
They take shortcuts as well. But the profession of a doctor is very different. It takes a long time to get into the profession, and it takes years to have a skilful profession and experience to handle emergencies. Medicine gives me satisfaction.
Q) Being a doctor, your job must be very hectic. How do you manage to take time for yourself, and what do you do in your free time?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โย They are very hectic about our daily schedule. Sometimes we donโt get time to have our meals on time. By the end of the day, we are so exhausted. I give more importance to the work-life balance. If you know how to balance things in your life, you know how to make time for yourself and work.
Till now, I have been balancing both of them simultaneously while I was doing my MBBS and also following my passion simultaneously. My friends and close ones suggested I should choose and move ahead with medicine and stop practising dancing.
I love travel blogging; I have a channel of my own on YouTube named Dr Akanksha Nanda. I like exploring things and spreading knowledge about my subject which is medicine.
Q What do you like the most about being a doctor?
ย
Dr Akanksha Nanda:ย Practicing medicine and being a doctor is a noble profession. The amount of respect we get is great. When you introduce yourself as a doctor to the people, they look up to you with great respect, and their point of view for you changes.
Q) Could you suggest some DIY tips for keeping the skin healthy?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โย Keeping the skin healthy is a must today. Astheticness in looks, good health and a perfect body have become a trend these days. Here are some tips that I practice in my day-to-day life to have good skin and hair.
Firstly Nutrition and eating habits, your skin and hair reflect the level of nutrition that you take daily. Having junk food daily and having drinks high in caffeine like tea, coffee, and alcohol in large numbers will affect you and damage your hair cells. Secondly, protection from the harmful rays of the Sun. Everyone should use a sun protection cream before exposure to the Sun. be in morning sunlight for at least 15 to 20 minutes a day; that is a great source of vitamin D.
ย
Thirdly, eating habits play a very important role in leading a healthy lifestyle. Everyone should include green leafy vegetables and fruits in their diet daily. Fourthly supplementation; if you face any issues related to skin or hair, do not rely on applications in rider to resolve the issues. I would highly recommend visiting a dermatologist to get the skin and hair issues resolved.
Fifth, working out and sleeping. Six to 7 hours of sleep is a must. Drink a sufficient amount of water and include working out for at least 30 to 45 minutes, five days a week, to have a healthy lifestyle.
Q)ย What is your idea of success? What has been the most significant milestone in your journey so far?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โ My idea of success is hard work! The more effort and hard work, and smart work you put into the work, the greater the chances for one to get success. In other words, hard work plus smart work equals success, which is the formula for success, in my opinion. And luck is zero per cent, in my opinion. If you want to be successful in life, learn to be disciplined.
Q) Being a doctor and an Odissi dancer, how do both professions complement each other? If you were given a chance, which profession would you choose?
Dr Akanksha Nanda โ It is a very difficult question for me; I canโt choose one. Odissi dance and the medical profession are two different professions. I could have done it early in my life if I had chosen, but I can manage both professions. Back in 2014, when I was choosing my profession as a doctor, there were no facilities for an artist to grow, but now theyโre a huge platform called social media that helps artists showcase their talent, and through that, they can earn as well. The medical profession has taken all the time, and Odissi dance is the 40% of the time that I have.
Dr Akanksha Nanda is a passionate Odissi dancer, a great doctor, and an amazing personality who forces on adding value to society through her profession. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
