I am not kidding you – these travel destinations actually exist and aren’t figments of your imagination. A sea (not the sky, surprisingly) full of stars, beautiful waterfalls and dark forests like the ones you saw in the Twilight series exist. Be prepared to have your mind blown as you browse these amazing locations and their photos. All the scenery you just imagined and the romantic places you have always dreamed of visiting with your loved ones are there. Maybe you will find your next vacation destination.

Let’s check them out:

1. SEA OF STARS, MALDIVES

The surprises of Vaadhoo Island are revealed at night by way of the luminescent property of the sea waters. The specialty is that the extraordinarily shining water sparkles like bits of mirrors reflecting light as if it reflects the twinkling stars of the sky. This stunning sight is caused by bioluminescent phytoplankton that emit light when stressed, giving the appearance of a starry night in the sea. Nature is truly magical. Phytoplankton, marine micro-organisms, have bioluminescence and emit glittering dots that glow, creating an illusion of a sea of stars. These microbes create the most astonishing natural lighting that will amaze any visitor.

2. SALAR  DE UYUNI, BOLIVIA

Solitary island at salt flat, Salar De Uyuni, Potosi Department, Bolivia
The world’s largest salt flats are 10,582 square kilometers. When it rains, the water makes it look like a giant mirror. The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average altitude variations lower than one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. It contains 50 to 70% of the world’s lithium reserves.

The Icy Tales team talked to Nick Edwards, Managing Director at Snowfinders, about visiting this unique destination. Here is what he said:

“In my personal experience, my most unforgettable moment at Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats was beholding the vast expanse of glistening white salt stretching endlessly, creating a surreal vista unlike any other.

A visit to this exceptional locale provides profound insights into Bolivia’s cultural and natural legacy.

The salt flats hold significant cultural value for Bolivia’s indigenous communities, serving as both a revered site and an essential economic asset.

Moreover, exploring the salt flats grants travelers a deeper admiration for Bolivia’s remarkable natural landscapes and the geological processes that shaped them over countless years.

To fellow adventurers planning a trip to the salt flats, I suggest engaging a well-informed local guide who can share knowledge about the area’s history, culture, and environment.

It’s also crucial to pack ample water, sunscreen, and warm attire, as the high altitude and varying temperatures can present challenging conditions. Lastly, remember to carry a camera to capture the surreal allure of this unforgettable destination.”

3. LOVE TUNNEL, UKRAINE

Green tunnel.
This beautiful tunnel looks like something out of a fairy tale. It’s actually still used today – trains chug through it three times a day to deliver wood to a factory. It’s believed that if couples who are truly in love hold hands and cross the tunnel, their wishes will come true. It is not every day you get on the train and find yourself surrounded by natural green arches. The beauty of the place captured attention and is considered the perfect fit for a photography scene, a romantic walk or a kids’ play date.

4. WISTERIA FLOWER TUNNEL, JAPANWisteria Tunnel

The wisteria flower tunnels in Kawachi Fuji Gardens look like something out of a fairy tale. Located in Kitakyushu, Japan, Kawachi Fuji Garden is home to an incredible 150 Wisteria flowering plants spanning 20 different species. The garden’s main attraction is the Wisteria tunnel that allows visitors to walk down an enchanting tunnel that explodes with colour. The best time to visit is from late April to mid-May, typically peaking at the end of April. The garden is private, so there is an entry fee.

  5. BLACK FOREST, GERMANYBlack Forest, Germany

If Germany’s Black Forest looks like something out of a fairy tale, that’s no coincidence. It is a large forested mountain range in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in southwestern Germany. It is bounded by the Rhine valley to the west and south. Its highest peak is the  Felberg, with an elevation of 1,493 metres (4,898 ft). The region is almost rectangular in shape, with a length of 160 km (99 mi) and a breadth of up to 60 km (37 mi). Brothers Grimm set many of their stories – including “Little Red Riding Hood” – here. The most heavily frequented tourist destinations and resorts in the Black Forest are the Titisee and the Schluchsee. Both lakes offer opportunities for water sports like diving and windsurfing.

6. NORTHERN LIGHTSNorthern Lights

The Aurora Borealis concentrates on charged particles entering the atmosphere and creating incredible lights in the sky when they ionize. An aurora sometimes referred to as a polar light, is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude regions. Auroras are produced when the magnetosphere is sufficiently disturbed by the solar winds. The trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma, mainly in electrons and protons, precipitate them into the upper atmosphere, where their energy is lost. The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying colour and complexity.

7. TROLLTUNGA, NORWAYMandatory Credit: Photo by Solent News/REX Shutterstock (4217496e) A sightseer admires the view from the edge of Trolltunga People stand on the edge of a 700 metre-high cliff, Norway - Sep 2014 *Full story: https://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/pkfx A sightseer is seen doing yoga on the edge of a 700 metre-high cliff as she takes in the breathtaking views. Meanwhile, another group leap into the air while more careful visitors simply stand and admire the scenery. The photographs were taken by Christopher Baldry, 34, who was sitting on a rock nearby. The edge that his friends are standing on is a popular spot for photographers, called Trolltunga - which means 'Troll's Tongue.' Christopher took the shots whilst hiking on a cliff with friends in Norway, just a couple of hours away from his home. He said: "We got there at around 6.30pm and went straight out to get some shots before setting up camp. "There can be quite a lot of people up there, but by spending the night we were one group of people among maybe eight other groups. "It's about 700 metres above the lake below. The view is amazing".

Norwegians do love their trolls. Trolltunga (Troll’s tongue) is a rock jutting horizontally out of a mountain about 700 metres (2,300 ft) above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet in the municipality of Odda in Hordaland county, Norway. The cliff is located east of the Skjeggedal area, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of Tyssedal and the Sorfjorden. The name translated to English is The Troll’s tongue. Trolltunga translates as Troll’s tongue and perfectly describes the piece of jutting rock.

8. BIGAR WATERFALL, ROMANIABigar Waterfall

One look at this waterfall, and you’ll see why travelling to it is a must. The stream falls from a cliff onto the moss, which makes the waterfall in interesting patterns. The Izvorul Bigăr is located at the southwest limit of the country, south of the Anina Mountains (a group of mountains included in the Banat Mountains), in Caraș-Severin County. Bigăr is one of the most unusual waterfalls globally and one of the most beautiful in Romania. According to The World Geography, several facts place her as number one on the list of eight unique waterfalls worldwide due to how the water spreads and falls in tiny shreds of water and the fact that it is located exactly on the 45th latitude north.

9. ABRAHAM LAKE, CANADAIncredible images of ice bubbles, Abraham Lake, Canada - 28 Jan 2013

This unique lake in Alberta, Canada, has cool-looking bubbles frozen near the surface. But be careful: the bubbles are full of methane gas, so don’t light a match near them, or there will be an explosion. Abraham Lake was created in 1972 with the construction of the bighorn dam. It was named after Silas Abraham, an inhabitant of the Saskatchewan River valley in the nineteenth century.

10. HAVASU FALLS, USAHavasupai falls

We’re aware of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, but there’s another lesser-known sight – the Havasu Falls – that you shouldn’t miss out on. Havasu Falls is located 1½ miles (2.4 km) from Supai. It is the more famous and most visited of the various falls along Havasu Creek. It consists of one main chute that drops over a 90-foot (27 m) to 100-foot (30 m) vertical cliff into a large pool. Due to the water’s high mineral content, the configuration of the falls is ever-changing and sometimes breaks into two separate chutes of water. The red rocks and vibrant blue waters make a really stunning contrast.

Now you believe me that such fairy tale places exist in reality, not merely the imagination. I have mentioned only a few, and there are many more. Some might not have even been discovered yet. Nature, chemical science and some human efforts created these wonderful places that left me speechless. Unlock the hidden treasures of nature.

SUCH  BEAUTIFUL DESTINATIONS! NATURE IS THE BEST ARTIST AND SOURCE OF INSPIRATION. THESE DESTINATIONS MIGHT LOOK LIKE DREAMS BUT ARE DEFINITELY REALITY.
