College is over, four years, and it is the most exciting time to take the first step, earn big, spend big, new city, even a different country may be, and have that awesome social life that Ranbir Kapoor had in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani in your post-grad life. But wait.
Let me hit you up with a reality check! You always thought that you were an adult after high school or grad school, but you will now see that the real messed-up adult life starts after college.
5 Ways Life Changes After College
Here are 5 ways in which your social life will change after college. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
1. You Won’t Meet Your Buddies Everyday
This one is pretty similar to what happened to you after school. All your then-new school friends and college friends get scattered, and you rarely meet them or see them anymore.
The same is going to happen with your college buddies and your social circle. Although you’ll always be in contact and have regular get-togethers with young people like you, you won’t see them every day.
You’d be out there making new friends, professional friends.
2. You Will Get Serious About Life and Being Independent
Gone are the days when you could just swoop out money from your parents or elder siblings and go to that party. Now you have to go out their earn and party. Well not sure about the party anymore.
Earning money becomes your priority because, according to the Indian society “ab tum bade ho gaye ho”, and you really NEED MONEY, MORE MONEY!
College graduation is going to sound emotional and is totally going to be, but start thinking that you have graduated college and that itself will make you proud that you have achieved something great.
The fun days are over when you jump around trying new things and didn’t even care to graduate college with great grades honestly. Now is when you set your goals and totally run towards them because there’s no time to walk.
3. No More Holidays and Exams
The holiday part is sad, but the examination part- yayay! Yes, this is a bummer, but the long summer breaks and that winter break…well, you won’t get it anymore. You will have to go to a full-time job in the burning heat and chilling cold.
When you have to stay up on a Sunday night to finish a report you have no idea about, you’ll miss your exams real bad and realize how much easier they were than the reports you have to submit.
4. Lots of Money But Less Fun
As you are probably earning now, you will have your own money, and you can spend it as you want.
You can go on that trip you always wanted to and attend your favourite star’s concert, and trust me there is nothing like spending your own money and get that super independent feeling. But here comes the drawback.
You don’t really have more free time and energy to attend that concert or go on that trip because you would probably be working on Saturdays too, SO MUCH TIME!
The little time you get, you’ll be sleeping like a dead man. Although you get more freedom in this new life in the real world it may feel tiring, to even wake up from bed to travel to a place that is just walking distance away on a Saturday when you are supposed to enjoy yourself according to the world.
5. Quality Would Matter More Than Quantity
You probably knew half the college, but as you come out of college and get into the corporate world, you’ll have just 3-4 close friends who stuck with you even after college.
A one-room apartment would suffice, and you would love it. One short trip to a nearby place would equate to a foreign trip. You will soon start valuing quality over quantity.
You can totally sum up the after-college life in the FRIENDS theme song.
Happy After College Life.
