Icy Tales in conversation with Anu Gogia on her fitness journey and her pregnancy.
Q) It is said that women should be physically active during pregnancy for better health; what type of workouts do you recommend for each trimester, and should women be active during the entire pregnancy?
Anu Gogia– There is a myth in people’s minds that pregnant women should not work out, lift weights and do many things that a normal woman does; this thinking needs to be changed. In the past, women did everything while carrying their children. Today also women have the same strong body that gives birth to a life, but the deficiency is a strong mindset. There is no need to have a weak and delicate attitude that believes all of the stupid myths of society.
If a woman takes prenatal training during her pregnancy, she certainly does not face any postpartum issues like depression and has a healthy delivery. So, you can do moderate exercise under professional guidance and with a doctor’s consultancy. If not training then also you can do a lot of physical activities like yoga, swimming and many other things. In other words, exercise makes you fit physically and helps you have strong and positive mental health.
Q) What do you do to keep yourself mentally healthy and happy?
Anu Gogia– Being a coach myself, I would recommend to every person, who wants to be mentally healthy and happy, to wake up and for 30 minutes do the physical activity that they enjoy. There is a scientific reason for this; a hormone called endocrine will release when you do this, and that hormone will give you the energy to work all day happily.
This does not mean that you need to work out. Instead, you can do any physical activity, be it dancing, swimming, yoga, running, jogging, etc. This is the self-tested mantra I have followed for many years, and I can surely say that I have become a better and healthier person now.
Q) As a fitness expert, what are some tips you have for staying healthy in this era of the rapid evolution of food delivery?
Anu Gogia– It is all in your mind; you can take this food delivery era more positively. Most people make excuses by saying they are busy and can’t maintain their diet; today, you can click a few buttons and get healthy food options delivered to your doorstep. If we go 3 years back also, there was no such thing as quick delivery, but now the evolution has done wonders.
People have interpreted food delivery in the sense of fast food only, but guys also have a clear look at other options. We have healthy choices also; the macros and micros are delivered, so take it in that sense. You can manage your healthy and busy lifestyle together; that’s a boon.
Q) What is your biggest strength and weakness in life? Who becomes the pillar of your power during hardships?
Anu Gogia– To be honest, I was a very emotional person when I started working out. It boosted my physical strength, but I always focus on strengthening my mental health. My motive behind this was to face every phase of my life strongly and confidently. Therefore, I always worked on my mind and made it my priority. So, currently, my strength and weakness are in my mind only. Whenever I feel weak, I talk with myself and make up my mind.
Q) Share 3 nutritional tips that everyone should adopt at any age.
Anu Gogia– People only talk about macros and proteins; no one talks about micros, which consist of many small vitamins and minerals. If I take my example, then I am right now 38 years old, and I conceived my baby naturally. Also, I am not eating any medicine. This was possible because of my healthy and balanced diet over the last 10 years. So, instead of spending much on doctor’s medication, spend on quality food. My first tip is please eat home-cooked healthy food with a lot of salad to get every nutrient.
Second, I would advise you to keep yourself hydrated. If you can’t drink much water, choose coconut water, green tea, lemonade, chia seeds water, or whatever you like. The ultimate goal is to keep your body hydrated. A third and very important tip would be to keep yourself happy and positive. If you are not positive, then I don’t think all of this will work. The other things are a waste if you do not follow this one.
Q) Ariel yoga is a new concept; please tell us something more about that
Anu Gogia– I have completed my Ariel yoga certification from Pune and have a Genesis Global school studio in Noida. As soon as I was about to start with the studio, I conceived my baby. Ariel yoga puts all of the pressure on the stomach because everything you lift gets strength from your core only.
Ariel yoga is an advanced version of basic yoga that requires a lot of strength and power. It stretches your muscles, improves blood flow, and helps you build strong mental health. So, I have put it on hold during my pregnancy, and I would not recommend you the same.
