The year 2015 was the year of controversies. But all the major controversies revolved around only one word, and if you haven’t guessed it already, that word is “INTOLERANCE. “
Be it the wish of Aamir Khan‘s wife Kiran Rao to leave the country or the writers returning their ‘Sahitya Academy‘ Awards, or the recent incident where the ‘Yuva Morcha burned Shahrukh Khan’s Dilwale posters.’ Intolerance was the hot topic of every nukkad tea-joint, of every gali of every mohalla.
Now guess, what was the most controversial animal of this year?
You must have got the hint by now, yes!
The Cow was the most controversial animal of the year. And it doesn’t stop here…
YAHOO INDIA has named ‘Cow,’ the Personality of The Year. OMG, it’s not a ‘proper noun‘ this time, it’s a ‘collective noun.’ In simpler words, not a person but the whole community of cows won the personality of the year’s title.
Well, we did see it coming, didn’t we?
Who else deserved this title more than cows. As long debates continued on online and offline platforms over the “beef ban,” further fuelled by the mob lynching at Dadri and stalling the Parliament proceedings. It had to be the ‘humble‘ cow this time.
People suddenly became more interested in What’s ‘cooking’ in the neighborhood? (all puns intended!) And our Muslim friends had to maintain a safe distance from the stray cows on the street.
Indeed, Well deserved Cow!
Some renowned people were also mentioned. The Ace newsmaker on the political front was our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the same time, the steamy Bihar and New Delhi elections brought CM Nitish Kumar and Arvind Kejriwal in the top list.
ISIS, 2015 WORLD CUP, DEMISE OF KALAM, SHEENA MURDER CASE, VYAPAM SCANDAL were the most searched news of 2015.
Salman Khan was the most searched male celebrity this year(ahem! the much talked about ‘hit and run’ case verdict). Our baby doll Sunny Leone bagged the first position for the most searched female celebrity on Yahoo India for the fourth time in a row.
In the sports category, Captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni topped the list of the most-searched sports person. While, in technology news, Apple was the most searched and iPhone 6 was the most searched gadget.
This trend is part of Yahoo’s 2015 Year in Review (YIR) for India. The review is based on users’ daily search habits and an editorial pick of what they read, recommend, and share most on Yahoo.
