Q. Tell us something about yourself?
Urvi Lukka: I am a tutor by profession and a small business owner by passion. I run brand Akvi®️, we sell Bralettes.
Q. What makes your product and brand unique?
Urvi Lukka: The products we sell are the softest ones you may have ever worn, and our brand’s comfort is what makes our product unique.
Q. There are so many niches in the market, so why did you choose Bralettes and Bags?
Urvi Lukka: I wanted to sell something that doesn’t have size issues from person to person. Since bralettes are free-size, I opted for them. Once we got a good customer base, I introduced bags, which I recently launched.
Q. As a businesswoman, what tips would you give someone who wants to enter the clothing industry?
Urvi Lukka: Be consistent in the industry you enter; as far as business is concerned, sales are not going to happen overnight or as soon as you start; you have to keep going.
Q. How was your journey till now? What was your most difficult phase, and how did you overcome it?
Urvi Lukka: My journey has been an exciting roller coaster, I would not say the most difficult, but the most challenging phase throughout is to keep people glued to your page, especially on a platform where people follow and unfollow every day.
Q. Handling a business is a very stressful job. How do you take time for yourself, and what do you promote to maintain a balance between work and family?
Urvi Lukka: I love doing what I am doing, so it has never been stressful, yet it’s on you how much stress you want to engulf; I don’t take any urgent orders as it’s totally on the courier people. I have never taken a single holiday in 365 days; I go for long walks and coffee and ensure some amount of “me time” every day.
Q. What is the inspiration behind ‘Akvi by Urvi’, and how did it start?
Urvi Lukka: It all started with my’ love for selling’ I have always liked selling; I observe sales at a book exhibition or the number of eatables a rood side hawker sells in a fixed time span. So, my liking to ‘sell’ things made me start this venture, initially when I started, I used to sell whatever I came across, but later learned that sticking to one niche helped me, now there are so many people who recall if it’s Bralettes, it’s Akvi®️.
Q. According to you, what are the characteristics of making a brand and taking it to another level?
Urvi Lukka: The first characteristic of making a brand is to give it a name , remember people will start easily recognizing what you sell once its named, get your brand registered and your trademark done , start tagging your products, create unique packaging that will make the customer feel special (Every order that I get, I send it with a handwritten thank you note) and let people know about it by marketing your brand thus taking it to another level.
Q. What is the best and the hardest part about having your business?
Urvi Lukka: The best part about having your own business is there are no fixed working hours. You can work at your convenience; the hardest is since it’s all yours, and you end up working all day long for 365 days.
Q. During covid clothing industry saw a downfall. How did you manage, and how did you overcome it?
Urvi Lukka: Covid, for me, was a blessing in disguise, shops were fully shut, and after a while, couriers were operational in some zones (they had named them orange and green), our sales were at their peak, and our followers increased by 10k.
Q. Can you share the greatest lesson you have ever learned?
Urvi Lukka: ‘Not let the voice of other people’s opinions affect you’ initially when I started this, and even today, selling a ‘bra’ is seen as a ‘taboo’ people always ask why did you choose to sell this; but remember they are the same people who will appreciate when you start getting popular.
Q. What role does Social Media play in fashion today?
Urvi Lukka: Why just fashion? Social media has become our basic necessity and an inseparable part of our lives; my entire business runs purely on Instagram. It’s the most effective way of letting people know about your business.
